Kappel Family // larson park // st. louis, mo

I recently photographed this awesome family, with three kiddos (all individually unique). The youngest was super outgoing and silly. She reminded me a little bit of myself as a child. Her name is Annie, which is what I went by as a kid. I'm pretty sure I told her Mom numerous times how funny and adorable I thought Annie was (so I must be funny and adorable- er was at one point?!). I, like Annie, am also the youngest of three kiddos, with a big brother and big sister.

Annie clearly was the outgoing, silly child. Her energy was infectious. She LOVED to be center stage. She was unique and colorful. I think birth order is so interesting, and I'm sure there are a lot of youngest children like Annie... outgoing and silly, refusing to let their voice go unheard. I love it!

Emma and Sam were so patient and sweet with their younger sister Annie. They let her be in the middle, in the front, on center stage. They were laughing at her funny antics most of the time, too. Like it was just another scene in their movie called life. Emma was the patient older sister. The way the light was bouncing off of her was so beautiful. Sam was a silly one himself, but also had this old-soul element. He was super comfortable in front of the camera, and did a crazy back bend. You kids rock. What a fun family!

Little Lucy // St. Louis, MO

Little Lucy came into the world with a head full of beautiful dark hair, and two completely, utterly, smitten parents. I love that "new parent" look almost as much as I love the newborn stretch and yawn pose (see below). I am thrilled to say that Miss. Lucy is my first ever, outdoor newborn session. AND, this session occurred in the midst of a thunderstorm. No, we did not put her in harms way, but we darted outside when the sky was beautifully overcast, in between storm clouds (it was a BIG in-between), to capture the dreamy outdoor shots. What troopers! Lucy just snoozed away, unaffected. I think this little peanut is going to love the outdoors!

Jackson turns 3! // Forest Park // St. Louis, MO

Obviously I absolutely love photographing people (kids especially, sorry grownups). Sometimes I have the pleasure of photographing friends or family. It is TWICE as much fun because I am hanging out with people I love, and doing what I love at the same time. And we are all usually super relaxed. That is just what I did a couple weeks ago during Jackson's 3 year photoshoot. Jackson and his parents have become good friends of mine— and I am more than honored to capture their little man on (digital) film, looking so grown up! The light was golden delicious evening light, pouring all over this adorable family! I hope I can get some more sessions during this time of day, it really is INCREDIBLE.

Jackson is a hoot. I've seen him sprout up over the last year, and I have seen his baby face start to look a bit more grown up (waa). He is such a handsome little boy, and has such an amazing attitude towards life. Jackson seems to go with the flow, wherever the wind blows.. or where there are rocks to throw! Lately he seems to run wherever he needs to go, stretching his arms back behind him, ready to take flight! Probably because he looks like a little cherub??! My son Finn LOVES playing with Jackson. I know he is just as happy as I am to have become friends with this awesome little family that we randomly met at Earth Day over a year ago!

Maggie + Patrick (and coming-soon, Henry) // Maternity // St. Louis, MO

How can I forget the star of the show, Bart (the bulldog)? He simply wanted to steal the spotlight during my recent photo session with his pregnant Mommy/owner.  His sweet, older companion, Homer (the pug) was also adorable and loving, doting on his pregnant Mommy. I love the names— Bart & Homer, my favorite childhood tv show, the Simpsons! These two adorable pups are smitten with their Mommy Maggie, as I am sure the NEW star of the show, baby Henry, will be as well. Maggie has a very calm energy, already deeply in love with this little baby. With a history of being a Nanny, I teased that she is already a professional Mom. Soon-to-be-Dad Patrick also has a calming energy, and is as loving and supportive as a Dad could be. These highschool sweethearts are starting a new, exciting chapter in their lives, and will no doubt be amazing parents. Their house will be a fun little circus for sure, with these two furry big brothers welcoming baby Henry in just a month!

Golden Fall // Oak Knoll Park // St. Louis, MO

I was able to squeeze in one more photo session before going on maternity leave- hooray! I met the Dermer family at Oak Knoll Park, here in St. Louis, MO. Luckily, we caught the last of the fall foliage before it slipped away. There were sprinkles of orange and yellow leaves scattered among the trees in the park. I love fall, and it is the busiest time of year for photo sessions, but the colors slip away fast. It can be a gamble as to when the leaves turn and if they stick around for very long. So I always feel blessed when I capture them on film (I always say film even though I'm shooting digital-get used to it!). I never realized how much I would be in tune to the seasons, weather, sunrise/sunset and lighting when I started my photo business. I have a great respect for Mother Nature and all of the things that she will throw at you during a photo session!

Keep in mind that I always honor a photo session that is cancelled or interrupted due to bad weather. We always can re-schedule for no extra fee.

The Dermers are an adorable and very photogenic family. They all have twinkly blue eyes and dark hair. The kiddos have freckles sprinkled across their noses. Baby Bennett probably has the most twinkly eyes and the silkiest hair! What poster a poster baby! Millie and Eli were so much fun, breaking out in dance (Whip and Nae Nae!) and laughing at themselves throughout the shoot. The kids were all loving on their Momma with lots of kisses and hugs. Simply way. too. cute.
