Pat + Michelle // Old Newcastle, DE // 5.14.16

My big brother got married. To a beautiful woman, inside and out. I am SO happy and so proud of him. The love he has for her beams from his eyes. It is adorable! Can you just FEEL how beautiful this day was through these photographs? Doesn't it feel like you are in California, Gettysburg and Ireland all in one day? Well, it just so happens to be little old Delaware, the "Small Wonder" of our country. Where we grew up. The day was so incredibly perfect and the wedding was so intimate. They got married at Penn's Place, in Old Newcastle, which had such a great vibe to it. It was so cozy and romantic.. perfect for this small wedding. The weather was what any bride would hope for, with random gusts of wind flowing in, as if the sky was confirming the union of love that was happening that day.

After the ceremony, we hopped around Old Newcastle, and these big grey clouds rolled in, and I was buzzing with excitement. The light was a photographer's dream! Those clouds and overcast skies create beautiful, even lighting. Sometimes the sun will pop out and say hello, sending little beams of light. We were giddy, racing around to get our bride/groom shots before the storm rolled in, and boy did it ever! What timing! The Gods were on our side that day. Love you Pat, and welcome to the family Michelle, you fit RIGHT in!

Dylan at 4 months (4 months ago!)

Hey guys. I'm just doing a quick post about MY baby boy... since I haven't done that since, er.. he was born? I think that is super awesome that I am so so busy that I don't have time to do blog posts.. I'd rather have a busy business and be behind in blogging then a slow business with all the time in the world to blog! If you don't follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you should.. because I am more up to date in those places. Anywho, here is Dyl Pickle at 4 months, and he really doesn't look or act that different! He is such a laid back baby. Still bald and still not mobile! :) Good news for me! His eyes are still mystery hazel- dark green/brown.

My bump // Faust Park // St. Louis, MO

Hey ya'll. Did you know I was pregnant? Well, I am... and he (yes, another he!) is coming soon! He just happens to be due 3 years and 3 days to the day of Finn's due date. Finn arrived two weeks late, so there is a big chance this guy won't share Finn's birthday. So we think.

I was determined to get some maternity shots since I didn't do my monthly bump update like I did with Finn (check my instagram feed for the orange wall series of my growing bump with Finn). I really wanted to do the photoshoot at 6 months pregnant, but you know how life just slips away in a whirlwind. I finally got our family motivated to get it done at 7 months pregnant.. so here I am, in all my third trimester glory! I recruited my Dear Husband to take the photos at Faust Park, just outside of St. Louis, MO. It is an adorable rural park, with barns and open land. Thank goodness Tom is an artist/designer/art director and has experience with photography as well. Don't you think he did a pretty kick as job? I art directed him, set up the camera for him, and he took over from there.

Photo credit to Tom White (the photos with me in them). The ones with all three of us are thanks to my nifty new MeFOTO tripod (I got the green one). The ones with me not in them are of course by me!

So here I am letting you know that I will be on maternity leave from now until about March 1st, just in time for spring blossoms. I will be slaving away for (and snuggling with) my second baby boy all winter. I am excited to be surrounded by boys... I was never a girly girl. So, bring on more trucks, cars, trains, buses and legos! I am so excited & will of course post photos of Baby #2 as soon as I can.

Jackson turns 2! // Forest Park // St. Louis, MO

One of Finn's little buddies turned 2 recently, and I had the pleasure of photographing him and his super-cool parents. Jackson inherited his parent's demeanor— he is a laid back and VERY smiley little dude.

We did the photo shoot at Forest Park in St. Louis, MO, right near the St. Louis Art Museum. It was an overcast morning, which I LOVE as a photographer (unless I am trying to capture the early or late Golden Hour lighting). A grey sky provides even lighting no matter where you go, and colors appear to be more vivid.

Right as we were really getting into the heart of the shoot, out of NOWHERE the skies dumped down on us. I mean yes, the skies were grey… but there was little warning to this heavy rain cloud. Poor Jackson was a bit scared… as we ran for cover under the nearest tree. I have never been more worried about my camera equipment before (this is why we get insurance people). Fortunately, Jackson and the camera were not damaged or traumatized. But we all looked like wet dogs after the rain cleared, and had to wrap up the session. I did a mini follow up shoot at their house because I will re-book due to weather issues. So ended up with a variety of photos from both sessions...

Addie & Ellen // Cousin love // Oak Knoll Park // St. Louis, MO

Here is a recent session with Finn's gorgeous babysitter, Addie + her younger cousin, Ellen. These two beauties don't look very similar, but both have to-die-for hair, beautiful eyes and the BIGGEST smiles. Ellen was also gorgeous, with the most breath-taking red hair. She looked like a little fairy/sprite when I had her standing in the woods—with those red locks & freckles sprinkled all over her face.

What an incredibly fun session. Thanks girls!

Ann White Photography // Shaw Nature Reserve // St. Louis, MO

Did you know that I moved to St. Louis?? Even though I have mentioned it multiple times on the blog, I never did a specific 'shout out' post about it. So here I am, four months into becoming a Midwesterner, and I am loving it (aside from the fact that I there is no beach). The people here are SO NICE. I feel like I have gone back in time about fifty years. Not in regards to fashion or cars or anything, but in regards to values and the importance of family and quality time. There is just SO much to do here with Finn... and a lot of it is free!

St. Louis has been so wonderful that I have been slacking in posting on the blog. I also had to unpack and get through the first trimester of my pregnancy. YES, I am pregnant with baby boy #2! He is due right around Finn's birthday this December. Another huge announcement. This explains why Finn is wearing "Best Bro Ever" in the following photographs. These were taken a couple months ago when we did a late Springtime hike to Shaw Nature Reserve. It was gorgeous!

the strange family // northern va

I love this family's last name—Strange! Isn't that awesome? As much as they are probably tired of the joke, I had to make that my punchline header ;) Meanwhile, they are anything but strange. They are super laid back, loving and smiley.

What an incredible last photo session to have in NOVA before my big move to St. Louis. I had one of those "Oh Sh%t" moments, waking up in the middle of the night and yelling "DANIELLE!", just like the Mom from Home Alone yells "KEVIN!". I was three weeks away from moving and remembered this adorable family that I had on my agenda to photograph. We just hadn't put it in the calendar yet. Thankfully, even though it was nearly March, there was still some pretty white snow on the ground—and they were not only willing to go outside, but they seemed to be energized by it (it was 30 something degrees out). What a true rural/country/farm, animal loving family. They have a pony (Little Legs- a.k.a: googly eyes), two dogs (Bert and Mikey), and a cat (Minnow). This is on top of having a toddler girl (Isabel) and young baby boy (Charlie). Hands full much?

I approached this session more like a journalistic, story-telling event. I wanted to just be with the family for the majority of the day. To capture their everyday moments, inside and outside. To just sit back and be a fly on the wall (or the horses ear). I had such a blast, and got to know this amazing little family—that one of my good friends holds very dear to her heart. My friend also has the same exact voice as Danielle, the Mom… even though they aren't related. I kept thinking my friend Jessie was there, which made me feel even more at home. These two long-time friends are kindred sisters… and have known each other since 2nd grade (I think?)!

There are a LOT of photographs of Isabel, who has such a big, beaming personality. She is a rough and tumble girl, who also loves to dance (Taylor Swift), do her Mom's hair, and harass snowmen. Charlie has these dreamy, other-wordly blue eyes. He seems to have a lot of wisdom for a 6 month old. I wanted to ask him the meaning of life. Too bad he can't talk.

So long Virginia

In case you hadn't heard, I am moving to St. Louis, MO! I am knee deep in boxes, getting ready for the big move, which is all happening suddenly, with little time to even think about it. My husband started a new job at St. Louis Magazine, as Art Director of the editorial art department. I am SO excited for him, and for my family's new adventure in that sweet little town.

The move is bittersweet, since I will be leaving family, friends, and clients behind. I feel like we were just settling into things here, and the wind decided to whip us away. But I think in my heart, I always knew we weren't going to be here forever. My inner vagabond is excited for the change, while my nesting Momma Hen side wants to stay in our adorable little house, in the comfort of our routine. But you can't resist things sometimes–and it was clear that this move was meant to be. And how nice it is to mix up your routine sometimes. But oh how I'll miss this house! It has dreamiest natural light that a photographer could hope for. The light pours into my bedroom in the early morning, and follows Finn and I downstairs into the living room. In the late afternoon it floods the kitchen and Finn's bedroom with the warmest rays… almost as if the sun was taking an afternoon nap in his room. This image often causes me to stop and gaze into Finn's room at times, trying to hold onto the image like a photograph in my head- forever. Do you ever take mental photographs? I do, all the time. But they just aren't as good as the real thing ;)

All of these moments sneak away from us as quickly as they grace our presence. As I sat in Finn's room today, snuggling on the chair with him, reading a book– I forced myself to take multiple photographs in my mind of the fat snowflakes falling from the sky outside of his window. I couldn't have asked for a prettier 2nd-to-last day in our perfect little house. Flash forward 6 hours to me cursing at the 8" of snow on my driveway, shoveling and thinking of all of the packing I need to be doing!
